Philip Trousdell is a retired infantry officer who joined the Royal Irish Rangers in 1969. He commanded the Gurkha Brigade in Hong Kong and was GOC Northern Ireland before retiring in 2005. He has been Chairman of the Gurkha Welfare Committee and has been a long term trustee of AMOT of which he is currently Chairman.
British history has always been a keen interest and military history is best described as an obsession. He has organised many battlefield tours both as a business venture and for friends and family.
He is a firm adherent to Colonel Robert Ogilby’s belief that serving soldiers are strengthened by a knowledge of their Regiment’s history and the Regiment’s part in the heritage of their communities. His own experience leads him to recognise the truth of Ogilby’s belief and the value to the Army as an institution and its serving members of local military museums. However, he recognises that the circumstance of 70 years ago, many county regiments with their own county town depots, is much changed and therefore how AMOT operates must continue to evolve as well.
