Located in Gloucester’s historic docks, the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum tells the stories of the men and women who have served their country across more than 300 years.
Reopened in 2014 following a major Heritage Lottery-funded refurbishment, the museum brings Gloucestershire’s military history to life through fascinating artefacts, personal stories and interactive exhibits.
Step into a First World War trench, try on Army uniforms, discover the stories behind military medals and find out how the Gloucestershire Regiment earned its famous Back Badge. Discover how the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars survived fighting in the desert and test the weight of a Rifleman’s rucksack for yourself.
From 1694 to the present day, follow twelve generations of Gloucestershire soldiers through the Napoleonic Wars, the Age of Empire, two World Wars, Korea and modern conflicts.
With changing exhibitions, our Soldier of the Month display and plenty of interactive activities, there is always something new to discover. Families can enjoy children’s games, try on uniforms and take part in our free quiz.
Above all, the museum is dedicated to remembering and honouring all those who have served their country as Soldiers of Gloucestershire.
