Cumbria‘s Museum of Military Life tells the story of Cumbria’s County Infantry Regiments and its soldiers, past and present. Telling the intertwined history of over 300 years of a British Infantry Regiment through audio visual displays and dioramas including recreated section of a First World War trench.
Find out what life was like for ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Get closer to history with a great variety of objects including uniforms, medals, weapons and silver from 1702 to present day. See the Bible that stopped a bullet drums once touched by the hand of Napoleon, and military hardware that served the British Army through two World Wars and beyond.
The Museum also offers research services for families looking to find out more about those who served with The Border Regiment and it’s successors. We also accommodate schools, groups and clubs both at the Museum as well as an established outreach programme.
