The Army Museum Ogilby Trust is delighted to congratulate David Blake on his appointment as a Fellow of the Ecclesiastical History Society (EHS) for 2026.

This prestigious recognition acknowledges David’s longstanding contribution to the study of religion, chaplaincy and conflict, and his commitment to supporting and enabling research in this important field.

Many within the military museum sector will know David through his work as Curator of the Museum of Army Chaplaincy and Archivist to the Royal Army Chaplains’ Department, roles in which he has served for more than a quarter of a century.  During this time, he has played a pivotal role in preserving, developing and making accessible collections that document the experiences of Army chaplains and the vital contribution they have made to service personnel throughout centuries of military history.

Beyond his curatorial and archival work, David has become a respected figure within an international community of researchers exploring the complex relationship between religion and modern conflict.  His dedication to supporting scholarship has helped foster new research, deepen understanding and ensure that often overlooked stories are brought to wider audiences.

The award of an Ecclesiastical History Society Fellowship is a fitting recognition of a career dedicated to preserving and interpreting an important aspect of our military heritage.
