York Army Museum is home to the collections of the Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment of Yorkshire and the Royal Dragoon Guards. One infantry, one cavalry, both are built on the histories of earlier regiments, spanning over 300 years of British military history. As a descendent of the Prince of Wales’s Own, the museum is also home to the collection of the modern Royal Yorkshire Regiment.

3 weeks agoThe displays are excellent, clear and packed with fascinating history about the regiment(s). My favourite artefact is the Dettingen Standard, the oldest surviving British cavalry colour. In 1743, Cornet Henry Richardson saved it from the French at Dettingen despite taking multiple sabre cuts and musket balls. The place was quiet when I went, and I ended up spending well over an hour there without noticing. Small museum, but it punches well above its weight. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in York.

5 months agoTruely fabulous little museum with some incredible exhibitions, I must mention how amazing the staff there were particularly Jana who made such an effort talking about the displays with both my boys. My eldest has never been as engaged with displays and that's is a credit to her passion and enthusiasm. 5 stars not enough

10 months agoKnowledgeable staff. Fun expositions. Not only that but the games and questionnaire was super interesting and fun to do. Great date Activity to talk about history with, one of my favorite Museums of York as a tourist from now on, and maybe even in all of England/the world.

a month agoI visited this place for my birthday and despite its small size it has a wealth of information and a great firearm instructor named Norrie, he was well fluent in his knowledge and was happy to discuss along with me. The displays are amazing and have great interaction for children. It is safe to say i expected to be here for 1 hour and ended up here for 2 and a half. Wonderful place, thankyou! Keep up the great work of educating us on our history that wr should not forget.

8 months agoFantastic museum detailing armour, weaponry, uniforms and the history of one of the finest fighting forces to ever exist (in my opinion). The museum is very well laid out and has an amazing collection to see and learn about. I highly recommend it if you're in or around York.
