I absolutely love this place. I use it for family history research - there are computers you can use for this on the 1st floor. It has a lovely little museum on the ground floor and a nice cafe. It is a registry office and you frequently turn up to find wedding parties arriving or leaving in their finery!

Hey! I just had the absolute pleasure of photographing Becky & Mathew's wedding at The Story in Durham, and I have to say, I’m still blown away! If you’re thinking about a smaller, more intimate wedding, this place is a total gem. The light streaming through the windows is just magical, making every moment feel even more special, and let me tell you, it makes for some stunning photos! It’s honestly hard to believe this is a registry office. The space is elegant, full of character, and has such a warm, welcoming feel. It’s got that perfect mix of charm and style that really sets the tone for a beautiful celebration. Huge congrats again to Becky & Mathew for such a gorgeous day! If you're looking for a venue that feels a little extra special, The Story might just be the one for you. 💛

27th Dec Is it too hard for the multitude of staff employed here for ONE of them to update Christmas opening times? Yes travelled here since it indicated it was open, but no locked shut. Annoyed 12 electric charging points, 11 taken up with either none-charging electric cars, or IC cars. People rude when we asked 'why are you parking in an charging bay with a diesel car?' Staff inside super useless and didn't want to do anything. Won't go back again Food not as good as it was when it opened, but cake nice.

Absolutely fabulous registry venue, excellent staff. With a really nice light in the ceremony room it meets the photographers needs. The cafe is good with nice cakes and coffee

Beautiful building with small but interesting display about our history and heritage. The cafe is bright, lovely and relaxing, facing out onto the scenery through large windows. The coffee was great and the staff were most excellent. The parking and entry is free. Great place to spend an hour or so.
