About the Museum

The Regimental Museum of the 9th/12th Royal Lancers is housed within the Soldier’s Story Gallery at Derby Museum. It covers the history of the Regiment and its antecedent units from the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715 to more recent service in Afghanistan. The Soldier’s Story gallery tells the story of three local regiments; the 9th/12th Royal Lancers, the Sherwood Foresters and the Derbyshire Yeomanry. The gallery looks at what life was like in the army, including sport, family and social life. The regimental archive is also held at Derby Museum and may be viewed by appointment in the recently opened Joseph Wright Study Room.
