The Mercian Regiment (WFR Collection)

The displays, which are housed in Nottingham Castle, cover the history of the Infantry Regiments and Soldiers of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire from 1741 right up to the present day. Our history covers the Sherwood Foresters, The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters and The Mercian Regiment. Highlights of the gallery include a range of interactives, a rolling programme of the Temporary Exhibitions, 11 Victoria Crosses and a display about the history of the Regiment’s Mascot, Private Derby.
The Archives are held separately at Foresters House, Chilwell and are accessible by appointment only on 0115 946 5415. Written and telephone enquiries are welcomed and enquiries can also be submitted from our website.
We also have a display in the Soldier’s Story Gallery in Derby City Museum and Art Gallery shared with the 9th/12th Royal Lancers and the Derbyshire Yeomanry
