The Museum of Somerset and Somerset Military Museum are located within Taunton's Castle adjacent to Castle Green at the centre of Somerset's county town.

A comprehensive and well displayed collection covering the history of the County Regiments of Somerset from 1685. It includes an explanation of how the former Yeomanry Regiments of Somerset combined with the Somerset Light Infantry Territorials to form an important element of today's Regiment, The Rifles. The coverage of The Somerset Light Infantry including the First Afghan war, including the Siege of Jellalabad, and the medal medal display are of particular note. The Regimental archive of The Somerset Light Infantry and The North Somerset Yeomanry is held at Somerset Heritage Centre.
