Ownership of the regimental collection of The Buffs has passed from Canterbury City Council to the National Army Museum where the collection is now housed. It is planned to return a representative display to Canterbury’s Beaney Institute when it re-opens in 2012. A collection reflecting the history of one of England’s oldest infantry regiments is now incorporated within the National Army Museum. The impressive array of pictures, medals, uniforms, mess silver and other artefacts traces the world-wide history of the Regiment from its formation in Elizabethan days to its amalgamation in 1961. The collection includes some items from the East Kent Volunteers and Militia. All research enquiries should be addressed to Dr Alastair Massie, Head of Archives, Photographs, Film and Sound at the National Army Museum. The Buffs Regimental Museum Collection has been since July 2000 the property of the National Army Museum. Some items from it are included in its galleries while the archives and photographs may be consulted in the Templer Study Centre. Enquiries about specific items in the Buffs Collection should be made in writing to Dr Alastair Massie, Head of Archives, Photographs, Film and Sound.’
