The regimental collections of the South Wales Borderers, the Welsh/Welch Regiment and the Monmouthshire Regiment are the focus of well presented displays in this fine regimental museum. Of particular interest are the exhibits covering the activities of the Regiment in the 1879 Anglo-Zulu War including the 24th’s heroic defence of Rorke’s Drift. The medal room contains nearly 3,500 medals and the sixteen Victoria Crosses won by members of the Regiment form an impressive central display. The regimental archive and library are on the same site and may be viewed by appointment with the Curator. Also nearby is the Regimental Chapel in Brecon Cathedral which contains the famous Queen’s Colour of the 1/24th saved by Lieutenants Melvill and Coghill after the disaster at Isandlwana in 1879.
